Whilst on the perpetual hunt for eclectic music, a band was brought to my attention, their style so unique and off the wall I was just compelled to do a write up.
Long Legged Creatures are a raw and truly eccentric up and coming four piece band from Leeds, each tune released offering a new sonic experience that feels like a melting pot of genres. Their repertoire of experimentally driven tracks melge the richest colours from dance music; breakbeats, broken samples, visceral and abrasive textures, with elements of Jazz, complementing these colours.
Truly they bring a dynamic plethora of a sound pallete to the table, that embellishes at their core, their guitar based sensibilities as a band.
One of their releases that caught my ears “Lack of Communication” gave me vibes from artists like Kaytranada, badbadnotgood and flying lotus played in a grungy indie rock kind of experimental context. These guys are as eclectic as you can get! Certainly not a sound that one can pin down in a measly few words.
The News
I write this post at this time, as they have an exciting new single coming up, named “AntiStar”, made in collaboration with Joshua Zero. I was lucky enough to be shown this tune a week in advance before release, and it is a banger!
Out on the 24th of Septmember, “Antistar” marks an prolific era for the band as they will be kicking off a stream of releases after this, including a tour so make sure to keep an eye out!
Antistar – The Review
This track truly spares no expenses as almost immediately it kicks off with a pumping four to the floor, and the post-punk raw vocals of Joshua Zero cutting through, howling his social commentry of what I interpret to be about technology and our society as a whole. Disconnecting us from what it means to be human, and inhibiting us from doing the things we truly want to do, in exchange for the meaningless chatter and constant stimulation fed to us “Let’s cut this hyper real, cyber-real bullshit baby and work on what you love”.
Immediately, it is clear you are in for a ride and there is a visceral message being conveyed, as you are being drawn into the atmosphere with abrasive synth and guitar textures, before the energy is ramped up a gear when the off-beat, aggressive bass line comes in. It’s gritty saturated overtones accompanying the kick drum perfectly, making that low end vibrate through your chest, akin to a techno production.
As the tune progresses so does the abrasiveness. With gut wrenching industrial sounding synth layers that keep building on top of each other, heavily reminiscent of a Nine Inch Nails song. However, also taking quite an unconventional and restrained song structure, with many builds in anticipation for the grand finale.
Here, Joshua Zero goes absolutly off the wall, pushing his vocals and the energy with his snarls and screams, whilst a medly of metallic abrasive synths, and constantly building dynamic percussion is pounding away in the background. An Extremely cartharic and satisfying moment in the track. Joshua’s dynamic vocal performance coupled with the post- punk, industrial and grungy based percussion really give a raw, unthethered feel that helps emphasise the message being portrayed here!
This tune is a sonic spectacle from start to finish!
Long Legged Creatures have gained a lot of traction recently, with publications all over the shop, including Clash magazine. In addition to this clocking over 100,000 streams on their latest single “Sorry”, and a tour ensuing. I say best of luck to this awesome outfit!
Antistar will be released on the 24th of September with an ensuing gig at the Headrow House!

Whats you opinion on Boris Brejcha and would you imagine yourself doing some “harder” tunes like Infected Mushrooms soon 😉 ?
